Advanced Higher Art and Design

Candidates may choose to specialise in either Expressive, Design or Research and Appreciation.


Expressive

Module 6.1 - Expressive Enquiry Investigation

1. Candidates are required to research in depth and respond to a specific area of personal interest
2. Identify chosen area of visual arts and actively research and investigate a variety of sources and stimuli, through sustained exploration and creative personal development.
3. Through drawing at first hand, investigating clear purposes linked to the theme through analytical and observational drawing.

Module 6.2 – Expressive Enquiry Development

1. Develop ideas both 2 and 3 dimensionally communicating personal thoughts, feelings and interpretations.
2. Develop ability and confidence in handling media, materials and processes.

Module 6.3 – Expressive Enquiry Outcomes

Produce an appropriate body of 2D/3D work.

Module 6.4 – Expressive Activity (optional)

Pupils who take this option will be required to develop Expressive through the study of a single area or theme. This unit can be done in combination with Design Enquiry.

Module 6.5 – Art and Design Studies (Visual Arts) (Optional)

Pupils who take this option will be required to undertake a single study which must be linked to the Expressive Enquiry unit.

Design

Module 6.1 - Design Enquiry Investigation

1. Identify and investigate design problem, applying skills of flexible, creative thinking and action.
2. Active research and investigation of design issues, implications and opportunities.

Module 6.2 – Design Enquiry Development

1. Develop an imaginative range of ideas and approaches to proposals, recommendations and/or solutions.
2. Create and present 2 and 3 dimensional visual forms which relate to proposal, considering same or similar design issues in society.

Module 6.3 – Design Enquiry Outcomes

Produce an appropriate body of 2D/3D work.

Module 6.4 – Design Activity (optional)

Pupils who take this option will be required to develop Design activity through the study of a single area or theme. This unit can be done in combination with Expressive Enquiry.

Module 6.5 – Art and Design Studies (Design) (Optional)

Pupils will be required to undertake a single study which must be linked to the Design Enquiry unit.

Research and Appreciation

Module 6.1

Identify an area or theme concerned with or arising from the visual arts or design.

Module 6.2

Research and investigate a variety of relevant sources using internal and external resources.

Module 6.3

Formulate and communicate personal interpretations, conclusions and judgements.

Module 6.4

Produce a 4000 - 6000 word dissertation

Visual Presentation

Module 6.5

Review and organise findings, identifying essential ideas and information

Module 6.6

Presentation can be in any appropriate format and must clearly integrate themes developed as part of Research and Appreciation.
