NAB 2 Carbon Compounds NAB 3 Acids, Bases & Metals
Unit1 starts in second year and continues into third year. Unit three begins in third year and finishes in fourth year. Unit two is the last unit to be studied and begins in fourth year because of the seamless progression into Higher Chemistry.
The pH scale, concentration of acids/alkalis and strong/weak acids. Module 3.2 Salt Preparation Reactions of acids, volumetric titrations. Module 3.3 Metals The electrochemical series, redox equations, reactions/extraction of metals (The material covered in this unit contributes to NAB 3 U3 PPAs1, 2 & 3)
Fuels; fractional distillation Module 2.2 Nomenclature Hydrocarbons; isomers; alkanols & alkanoic acids Module 2.3 Reactions of Carbon Compounds Addition; cracking; ethanol; making and breaking esters; Module 2.4 Plastics & Synthetic Fibres Uses; addition polymerisation; condensation polymerisation Module 2.5 Natural Products Carbohydrates; proteins; fats & oils (The
