SQA Unit 2 Principles of Chemical Reactions


Module 2.1 Stoichiometry

Volumetric titrations; redox titrations

Module 2.2 Chemical Equilibria

Reaction equilibria; equilibria between phases;

Module 2.3 Thermochemistry

Hess’s Law; bond enthalpies, Hess’s Law applied to ionic substances

Module 2.4 Reaction Feasibility

Entropy; free energy

Module 2.5 Kinetics

Rate of reaction; rate order

SQA Unit 3 Organic Chemistry


Module 3.1 Permeating Aspects of Organic Chemistry

Module 3.4 Structural analysis

Elemental microanalysis & mass spectrometry; infrared, nmr and x ray spectroscopy

SQA Unit 4 Chemical Investigation

Pupils are expected to complete a day book as part of their twenty hour investigation.
(The outcome of how successfully completed the day book is contributes to NAB 4.)

Pupils will be expected to do their own background reading.
