A study of the skills involved in personal and reflective writing.
Assessment: Piece of writing.

Module 3.3 - Literature: Poetry

A study of the literary terms appropriate to this genre in a common core of poems.
Assessment: Critical Essay

Module 3.4 - Literature – Prose Short Novel/Short Story

A study of the literary terms appropriate to this genre in core texts.
Assessment: Critical essay plus a piece of writing.

Module 3.5 - Drama: Non- Shakespearean

Pupils study a short 3 Act play and the appropriate literary terms.
Assessment: Critical Essay

Module 3.6 - Writing: Persuasive/Argumentative

A study of the skills of discursive writing.
Assessment: Piece of writing.

Module 3.7 - Drama – Shakespeare

Pupils study a Shakespearean text.
Assessment: Critical Essay

Module 3.8 - Talk

Pupils study and practice the techniques and conventions of individual presentation and group discussion.
Assessment: Performance

Module 3.9 - Textual analysis

Pupils practise skills of analysis and evaluation in extracts from drama and prose.
Assessment: Textual Analysis

Module 3.10 - Literature: Prose – the novel

Pupils will apply skills learned earlier in the study of prose to produce a critical appreciation of a novel.
Assessment: Critical Essay

S4 English

Module 4.1 – Close reading

Interpretation skills, including the linguistic techniques used in expressive and persuasive writing.

Module 4.2 – Writing

Discursive Essay: the skills of argumentative and persuasive writing. Personal Writing: techniques of reflective prose writing. Creative Writing: techniques of writing a short story, and poetic techniques. (Best piece of writing becomes module grade.)

Module 4.3 – Poetry

The literary terms appropriate to this genre in a common core of poems.

Module 4.4 – Prose

The literary terms appropriate to this genre through the study of a novel from a common core.

Module 4.5 – Drama

Pupils will study a Shakespeare play.

Module 4.6 – Individual Talk

Skills of individual presentation.

Module 4.7 – Individual Talk

Skills of group discussion.

Module 4.8 – Textual Analysis

Unseen Textual Analysis of either poetry, prose or drama. Note: this also fulfils the assessment requirement for Int 2 Unit 2 (Literary Study).

Module 5.1 Personal Study

Personal Study - pupils will use skills learned in study of literature to produce a critical appreciation of a text, which they choose themselves.
