Task 2 - word processing - opening documents

For the next few tasks, you will use a ready made document and learn how to edit it.

 

This document has parts missing for you to fill in and errors to be corrected.

 

  • To get the file that you need, click on the disc icon and choose save

  • You will then be asked where to save it to
  • You should be in the My documents folder, so save it there.

 


 

To open this document, follow these instructions.

  • Go to the start menu and choose to open Microsoft word (it may be in microsoft office)

Microsoft word has a different look from the previous versions. there are no longer menus. instead it has a ribbon (see below)

The ribbon has many different tabs, eg. home, insert, page layout etc.. EAch tab has many different options in the way that there were many options in the menus from previous versions.

There is also the office button for the options that were usually found in the File menu.

 

The next instruction uses the office button:

 

  • Once word is opened, click on the office button >> and choose open

 

 

You will now see the following document

As well as errors, there are pieces of text in red. You will replace these spaces with details appropriate to your company that you have created.

Your final document will eventually look something like this...


Saving a copy of the letter

Now save a copy to your documents folder for you to edit and keep by going to:

  • click on the office button
  • choose save as

  • now choose the word document option

You will now see a dialog box similar to this

    • double click on the documents folder
      Click on the new folder icon

     

    • This will create a new folder which you can call "word processing"
    • Open this folder by clicking the open button
    • Enter in the name "letter" into the filename text box
    • Click the save button
