Below,
shows an example of a robot arm that can be typical of those found in
factory floors.

Robot
arms are commonly found in car manufacturing and laboratories, amongst
other places.

These
types of robots are very flexible and can easily be re-programmed
The
arm has many different parts:
- waist
- elbow
- Shoulder
- end effector
(where many tools can be attached to do different jobs
- wrist
Tasks
Using the parts
listed above, copy the diagram below and Label the parts indicated.

End effectors
An end effector is a tool that can be a replacement for a hand
. It allows the robot arm to do a variety of tasks. An example

True or false?
Read these statements. In your jotter, write down all

Robotic systems are used in industry because:
- They speed up the process of manufacture;
- They do not need to be programmed
- They enable tasks to be performed in hazardous environments;
- They can perform, without breaks, tasks which humans would find
boring or repetitive;
- They are inexpensive to purchase
- They can fix themselves.
- They are more efficient than humans;
- They reduce costs over time;
