Module 2.1 – Writing

Reading extracts of personal/autobiographical writing; making notes, planning and writing a personal essay.

Module 2.2 –Novel/Drama

Study of plot; awareness of the importance of opening, crucial scenes, linear plot and flashback; central and minor characters.

Module 2.3 – Poetry 1

Study a selection of poems; revision of literary terminology; discussion of ideas and literary technique in preparation for textual analysis; writing poetry employing some of the techniques studied.

Module 2.4 – Talk 1

Research, preparation and delivery of an individual talk.

Module 2.5 – Writing 2

Learning to use language effectively through reading extracts of descriptive writing; figurative language, including simile, metaphor and personification; varying sentence structure; broadening the range of vocabulary.

Module 2.6 – Poetry 2

Study of several poems linked by theme; rhythm and rhyme; arrangement of stanzas; blank/free verse.

Module 2.7 – Writing 3

Reading examples of discursive writing; analysing authors’ style; learning how to build an argument.

Module 2.8 – Drama/Short Stories

Plot; key scenes; important speeches; narrator; setting; dialogue.

Module 2.9– Poetry 3

Study of several works by the same poet; poetic technique; awareness of autobiographical content; pupils will write a poem about their own life.

Module 2.10– Non-fiction and Novel 2

Narrator; setting and its effect on the character. Appreciating how language is used in advertising; looking at examples of persuasive writing; pupils will write their own adverts and produce their own holiday brochure.

Module 2.11– Talk 3

Debating skills; collaborating with team members; planning and organising the team argument; learning relevant terminology.
