DIRECTED WRITING PHRASES


The following phrases relate to the various Directed Writing scenarios and should help you write your essay. They cover the following bullet points:

Expressing when you went:
l'estate scorsa last summer

Expressing where you went and with whom:

sono andato/a in Italia per uno scambio scolastico I went to Italy on a school exchange
sono andato/a con degli amici I went with some friends

Expressing how you travelled:
ho viaggiato in treno I travelled by train
abbiamo viaggatio in aereo we travelled by plane

Expressing what you did during the journey:

Expressing where you stayed:

Expressing how long you stayed:

sono rimasto/a quindici girni presso una famiglia I stayed a fortnight with a family

Decsribing your accomodation:
la mia camera era molto comoda my room was very comfortable

l'ostello non era molto comodo the hostel was not very comfortable
la casa era piccola ma comoda the house was small but comfortable
l'ostello era assai sporco the hostel was quite dirty

Expressing how you got on with people:

Expressing your general opinion of your stay

Saying what you did (on one occasion):

Saying what you did (on more than one occasion):
tutte le sere mangiavamo in una pizzeria every evening we ate in a pizzeria

Describing a job you did

Expressing likes and dislikes:

Suggesting whether or not you would like to repeat the experience:
mi piacerebbe tornare in Italia I would like to go back to Italy
non vedo l'ora di tornare I can't wait to go back
raccomanderei un soggiorno all'estero I would recommend a stay abroad

non voglio tornarci mai I never want to go back there

Giving a reason for your opinion
il viaggio era troppo lungo the trip was too long
