Assessment Guide

AS Level Philosophy

Candidates are assessed for this course by 3 one hour examinations.

They will sit the following papers. Each of which asks them to answer two questions, chosen from 2 sections.

Foundation paper containing introduction to both philosophy and ethics 1 hour

Philosophy Paper 1 hour

Ethics Paper 1 hour

Each paper is marked out of 100 marks; 50 for each question they attempt.
Each question is split into two parts; firstly an essay demonstrating knowledge and understanding of their chosen topic, marked out of 33. Then the second part demonstrates their ability to evaluate, marked out of 17 marks.

The totals are added together to give them an AS grade as follows:

B 210

C 180

D 150
