2.1 – Astronomy

The solar system; the sun as a source of energy; planets, moons, asteroids, comets, meteors; stars and galaxies; the structure of the universe; the speed of light, the light year, interstellar and intergalactic distances; the earth in space, day and night, the seasons, phases of the moon.

2.2 – Light

Reflection at a plane mirror and at concave and convex mirrors; the law of reflection; application of reflection; refraction of light, concave and convex lenses, focal length of a lens; applications of lenses; colour, the dispersion of white light in a prism; colour mixing, absorption and reflection of light.

2.3 – Relativity

Einstein’s law of Special Relativity; the speed of light; effect of travel at speeds close to the speed of light on time, length and mass.

2.4 – Electricity II

Current and voltage in series and parallel circuits; resistance, factors which affect resistance, variable resistors, resistors in series; Ohm’s Law; applications of resistance, lamps and heaters; parallel arrangement of lights and sockets.

2.5– Energy II

Permanent magnets, electromagnets, applications of electromagnets, generation of electricity, sources of energy (fossil fuels, nuclear, renewable), power generation, thermal power stations, nuclear power stations, hydro-electric power stations, wind turbines.

2.6– Electronics

Electronic systems, input devices, output devices, analogue and digital, logic gates (NOT, AND, OR), truth tables, using logic gates, combinations of gates (control circuits).
