New Head Master for St Aloysius' College

The Governors of St Aloysius’ College are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Matthew Bartlett as Head Master with effect from October 24, 2016.

Mr Bartlett is currently Headteacher at twice ‘outstanding’ Ofsted-rated Dover Grammar School for Girls, which also hosts a co-educational Sixth Form.

Mr Bartlett expressed his delight at taking up the role of Head Master at St Aloysius’ College, which he described as having ‘a treasured place in Jesuit, Catholic and Glaswegian education’.

Mr Bartlett said: “It is a privilege and a wonderful opportunity to join the Aloysian community. I hope that my broad and deep experience of Catholic education and of previously leading an outstanding school will help to continue the development of the College as an inspirational and innovative school.

“The sense of community within the College and the city is already very apparent to me and I am excited about moving to a vibrant city such as Glasgow. I can’t wait to join the College; October almost seems too long away!”

Having spent eight years as Deputy Head of St Bede’s College, a Catholic independent school in Manchester, Mr Bartlett spent his early teaching career at Manchester Grammar School before leading the history department at Nottingham High School.

Mr John Hylands, Chairman of Governors, commented: “Mr Bartlett will bring to St Aloysius’ College a wealth of experience and an outstanding track record of success in Catholic teaching and senior management. We are delighted to welcome him to Glasgow.”

Mr Bartlett will succeed Mr John Browne, who will take over as Head Master at Stonyhurst College in the Autumn.
