CAREERS

The Careers Co-Ordinator is available to pupils for discussions about career choices, options in academic courses and university entrance applications. In each House, one staff member has special responsibility for careers advice. Parents are welcome to avail themselves of the advice of the Careers Co-ordinator.

Careers Scotland provides additional support, including a weekly visit by a careers adviser and careers interviews.

There is a careers library, which has copies of university prospectuses, facilities for submitting UCAS forms over the Internet, and a computerised careers and higher education database.

In particular, parents of pupils who are thinking in terms of specialist careers (in veterinary science, medicine or engineering, for example) should ensure that their sons/daughters have made adequate inquiries about courses, qualifications and university admissions requirements before making option choices at the end of S2, and S4, and when considering Sixth Year. Options meetings are held for pupils and parents at these important junctures.

Pupils take part in a week's Work Experience in the Summer Term of S4.
