GAMES

Senior School Games

Senior School pupils have a games session each week. All pupils are required to participate unless there are medical reasons not to do so.

Sixth Year Games are run in options blocks. Pupils may opt into or out of an option block but once committed are required to attend all the Games sessions in that block.

Off Games arrangements

Pupils who are injured or unwell mustbring a parental note to school on the games day. The note is to be taken before 9.00am to the House office. If the pupil is late, s/he is responsible for ensuring the note is taken to the House office before the Games session.

Off-games pupils report to a designated classroom for the duration of the games session and must have a book to read. Permission to do homework will not usually be given.

If a pupil becomes unwell in the course of the day and needs to seek exemption from games, s/he must obtain a permission slip from the Housemaster.

Parents are asked not to ask for games exemptions unless there is real need. Generally, if a pupil is too ill to do games, s/he is probably too ill to attend school. Exemption from games should generally be for reasons of injury, not reasons of illness.

As pupils get older, some will try to avoid games - it is much better to confront and resolve this problem by speaking to the Housemaster rather than resorting to half-truths and colluding in your child's avoidance. If there is a serious problem, the school will work with pupil and parents for a satisfactory resolution.

Off Games

Pupils who are injured or unwell should bring a parental note to school on the games day. The note is given to the Class Teacher. During the games lesson, off games pupils will remain in their classroom or the library and be set work to do.

Parents are asked not to request games exemption unless there is real need. Generally, if a child is too ill to do games, they are too ill to attend school, except in the case of an injury.
