ST ALOYSIUS'
COLLEGE
SCHOOL HANDBOOK
CODE of BEHAVIOUR for SPORTS FIXTURES
Rules for pupils
When you play for the school, the College will be judged by your words, actions and attitudes. You should therefore keep in mind:
1. At home fixtures, you
are the host - welcome the visitors and do everything to make them feel at home.
2. At away fixtures, you are the guest - be on your best behaviour, courteous
and giving a good impression.
3. No player or team should seek to gain unfair advantage by unfair means. You
are to follow the rules of the game in spirit as well as in letter.
4. Foul, abusive or threatening language or verbal provocation has no place
in school games, on or off the pitch.
5. You must never resort to physical violence, nor should you respond with physical
violence. Always refer any intimidating or dangerous situation to the referee
or teacher in-charge.
6. The authority of the referee is always to be respected and never questioned.
7. In winning or losing, your behaviour should be moderate and appropriate.
8. You are to wear school uniform to and from games fixtures. You must have
the correct games kit, clean and properly worn.
9. Behaviour in the changing rooms is to be responsible and considerate of the
sensitivities of others.
Pupils who fail to abide by these rules will not be allowed to represent the College in school fixtures. Serious misbehaviour will be a disciplinary matter.
The College warmly welcomes the support of parents at fixtures. However, in the enthusiasm of the moment, support can sometimes interfere with the coaching and refereeing of the game and set an example we would not wish pupils to emulate. Therefore, we respectfully ask parents:
1. Please do shout encouragement
but do not let that become interference in coaching instructions, refereeing
decisions, or focus prolonged or undue attention on individual players.
2. Please do not criticise the referee, opponents' coaches and teachers, or
our own games staff. Constructive comments are welcomed by the games staff at
an appropriate time after the fixture.
3. Please do encourage your son/daughter to attend, at least for a short time,
the social "teas" after fixtures, both home and away.
4. Please support the school's rule that players arrive and depart from fixtures
in full school uniform. It is not acceptable for players to be delivered or
taken home in games kit or half-dressed.
HMC schools have a clear code of behaviour for pupils and expectations of parents and the College can be penalised when these are not adhered to.
