ST ALOYSIUS' COLLEGE
SCHOOL HANDBOOK

TERMS of ADMISSION

conditions of admission

The admission of the child . . . as a pupil of St Aloysius' College (and its Junior School) and his/her continued attendance from year to year is dependent on acceptance by his/her parents of the following Terms of Admission:

admissions policy  1  That, with the support of his/her parents, the child satisfies and continues to satisfy the requirements of the Admissions Policy:
  • Pupils are admitted with regard to the benefit they are likely to gain from the Jesuit education offered at the College. Consideration is also given to the likely contribution they will make to the life of the school community.
  • Pupils are admitted with regard to their academic performance and potential. The school strives for academic excellence and will admit children who are able to sustain and benefit from a high level of academic study across the full range of the curriculum.
school rules  2   That the parents agree that the policies, procedures and rules, as published in the School Handbook and elsewhere, and amended from time to time by the Head Master, shall apply to their son/daughter throughout the whole period of his/her attendance at the school, irrespective of age.

3   That the possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on school premises, at school functions or while travelling in connection with school, will make the child liable to immediate expulsion.

4   That, on reaching the age of sixteen, the pupil him/herself agrees to abide by the policies, procedures and rules of the school and does so in practice.

sanctions  5   That the Head Master may impose such sanctions and punishments as he considers appropriate in respect of infringements by the child of school rules, or such other conduct as he regards to be harmful to the safety and well-being of others, or which impedes the learning of other pupils, or which is detrimental to good order or to the reputation of the school. Such sanctions include detention, suspension and expulsion from the school.

withdrawal required  6   That the Head Master shall have the right at any time to require the withdrawal of the child if for any reason, in his opinion, such action is in the best interests of the school or of the pupil. Persistent failure to make reasonable academic progress due, in the opinion of the Head Master, to lack of effort or inability to cope with the demands of the school curriculum, may lead to such a requirement of withdrawal.

fees  7   That the following conditions shall apply to the payment of fees:
  • fees for the school year are fixed annually by the College Governors and communicated to parents prior to the start of the school year.
  • fees shall be paid annually or in such instalments and by such methods as are determined by the College Bursar.
  • interest on outstanding fees will run at the rate of 4% over Bank of Scotland base rate from the due date until paid.
  • in the event that fees remain outstanding for more than one month after their due date for payment, the Head Master may require the pupil to be withdrawn from the College.
  • if parents wish to withdraw the child from the College, they must give written notice to the Head Master at least six weeks before the actual date of leaving. Fees shall continue to be payable until the date of leaving or the expiry of the six week period of notice, whichever is the later.
  • fees continue to be payable when a pupil is absent from school for a period of time, including when suspended.

emergency medical treatment  8   That in the event of accident or illness while at school, and where there is difficulty or likely to be undue delay in obtaining specific parental consent, a staff member may consent to such medical treatment, including anaesthetic, surgery or blood transfusion, as may be necessary for the well-being of the child in the opinion of a qualified medical practitioner.

attendance  9   That parents ensure the punctual and regular attendance of the child at such classes, examinations, sports and other activities as are required by the College, including sports fixtures on Saturday mornings and other activities outwith the school day.
