The College has developed strong links with many local schools and has consequently been involved in a variety of projects in the local community.

I know that you as young people have great aspirations; that you want to pledge yourselves to build a better world. Let others see this, let the world see it, since this is exactly the witness that the world expects from the disciples of Jesus Christ. Pope Benedict XVI World Youth Day, Cologne, 2005

St. Benedict’s School, Easterhouse

S5 and S6 pupils have attended the school each week to assist with literacy and numeracy. The Head Teacher has reported that one child’s reading age improved by a whole year in the two terms that one of our pupils worked with him on the “Toe by Toe” reading programme. Pupils collected books to supplement the resources in the school library and have helped to create an eco-garden.

Garnetbank Primary School

Garnetbank is a multicultural, non-denominational primary school. We have developed a strong and successful link with the school. Last year we provided funding and materials to create a garden space for pupils with autism. Raised beds were constructed and seeds and plants were donated. This has been used to grow vegetables and flowers and teach the children about healthy eating and where their food comes from.

We are working with local businesses to gain sponsorship to develop a mural in the school's playground area. Plans have been discussed for creating a football crowd scene with each child being represented. Along the base there will be advertising boards promoting Fair Trade and the link with St Aloysius’ College. The work will be created with eco-paints and some of our senior pupils will assist with the design and final artwork.

Pupils from Garnetbank have attended concerts at St Aloysius’ College and members of the chaplaincy team in the College have attended events at Garnetbank. Pupils assist at Garnetbank each term as part of the Arrupe (Voluntary Service Programme).

St Joseph’s Primary, Raglan Street, Glasgow

Pupils from S5 and S6 assist with literacy and numeracy projects and arts and crafts. Our partnership with St Joseph’s is in its early stages but is one that we are sure will continue for many years.
