Every child at St Aloysius’ College benefits from the education provided by the PE department, with teaching provided to all pupils from Kindergarten through to S6.

PE is a core subject in the curriculum from Kindergarten to S2 and Games is compulsory from P4 through to S4. From S3 onward, pupils may opt to study Standard Grade PE, Higher PE and Advanced Higher PE, whilst a wide range of Games options are available to all pupils in S5 and S6.

On-site, the College provides facilities including two small gyms, a weights room and a cardio training room. Additionally, the College has its own excellent sports pavilion playing fields at Millerston, Cumbernauld Road, and is also privileged to have access to the first-class sports facilities at Strathclyde University, as well as various other centres throughout the city.

The PE Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular sport, supplemented by the generous help of other teaching colleagues.

Activities include: rugby, hockey, football, basketball, athletics, cross country running, volleyball, girls football, touch rugby, badminton, golf, tennis, skiing, spin, cardio and weight training. There are also various trips and tours offered by the department, included tours for hockey and rugby and the annual ski trip.

S3 and Beyond

SQA courses are offered in Standard Grade PE, Intermediate 2 PE, Higher PE and Advanced Higher PE.

Courses in Leadership, GCSE PE and SQA national 5 have been investigated and are being developed for possible future implementation.

S3 and S4 Games

Rugby, Hockey, Athletics and a range of optional games activities for those pupils who no longer wish to play Hockey and Rugby. Activities offered include; Golf, Tennis, Climbing, Badminton, Tennis, Basketball And Volleyball.

S5 and S6

A wide range of games options from Rugby, Hockey, Football, Conditioning/Fitness, Badminton, Tennis, Basketball, Golf and Climbing.

Seniors who take part in the Arrupe programme during formal games time, are encouraged to use the Cardio room/ Conditioning gym in free time.

The gyms are open from 7am every morning and close after 6.00 each night.

The pupil council is regularly consulted about other activities our pupils would like to be offered. The PE department is happy to provide other sports where there is a demand.
