Aloysian Talent and Generosity Shines Through at Songs for Sofia

The staff, pupils and parents of St Aloysius’ College came together in perfect harmony last week for ‘Songs for Sofia’, a special charity concert held to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

Songs for Sofia was organised by the College’s Junior School to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital where Sofia Vezza, now of S1, was treated as a Junior School pupil.

The sold-out Concert was held in Adelaide’s Auditorium near St Aloysius’ College and showcased the talent of the College’s young choral singers and musicians.

And as a fundraiser, Songs for Sofia proved to be a fantastic success, raising over £2100 for Yorkhill Children’s Charity through bucket collections on the night which could go towards helping secure a music teacher for the Children’s Ward of Yorkhill Hospital.

The young Aloysian singers who performed in the Junior Choirs and Schola Choirs were described as ‘amazing’ after treating the audience to an evening of impressive vocal arrangements and performances of well-known songs such as ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’ by the Beatles, ‘Everything is Awesome’ from the Lego Movie, and ‘Greatest Day' by Take That.

And with solo instrumental performances on piano, clarinet and violin, and a group performance on classical guitar, the concert also displayed the wide ranging musical talent developing at the College with help from the newly extended Junior School music tuition programme.

One of the many highlights of the evening came towards the very end of the concert when the recently formed staff choir surprised everyone by taking to the stage in a flash-mob to perform ‘Lean on Me’ for their delighted pupils and audience members.
