Aloysians invited to Launch SCIAF WEE BOX Appeal

Make a Difference

Pupils from St Aloysius’ College were invited to take part in this year’s official launch of the SCIAF Wee Box Appeal, spending the day learning about the great work of SCIAF and talking with SCIAF ambassadors, Michelle McManus and Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross.

The Aloysians travelled the short distance to Glasgow’s park circus to help SCIAF launch the Wee Box Appeal which raises thousands of pounds a year through Scottish Parishes and Schools.

Last year the pupils, staff and families of St Aloysius’ College took part in a number of Lenton fundraising activities for SCIAF, including a Junior School Scoot N’ Skip, and raised an incredible £6145.29.

The College’s donation was then doubled by the UK Government to ensure that SCIAF received a total £12,290 thanks to the Aloysian community.

At the Wee Box launch, the Aloysians were told that this year’s total will also be doubled by the Government and heard the inspirational story of Carfi Sara and his family, who have been helped by to work of SCIAF and who feature of the side of this year’s Wee Box.

The pupils also took part in a Q & A with Bishop Joe, Michelle McManus and Rickey Ross and the Deacon Blue frontman told pupils why he supported SCIAF and the WEE BOX Appeal,

“SCIAF’s WEE BOX appeal reminds me how lucky I am. So many people in the world don’t have enough food to eat or clean water to drink. SCIAF work tirelessly to change that.”

This year the Junior School have been asked to ‘Make a Splash’ for SCIAF so pupils are now dreaming up ways to raise money by ‘making a splash’ to make a big difference in the lives of others.
