Commitment, Skill and Determination Key to Aloysian Success at Rugby 7s Competitions

Rugby is going from strength to strength at St Aloysius’ College and, following on from the U16 Scottish Plate Final at Murrayfield last month, the College’s S3 and Senior Rugby 7s Squads both went undefeated to convincingly win prestigious Rugby 7s competitions.
The future of senior St Aloysius’ College rugby is looking bright after the S3 Rugby 7s Squad remained undefeated throughout their winning run in the Carrick Academy 7s.
Winning matches against Jordanhill, Marr College and Dalancraig in the early rounds, the Aloysians went on to beat Ayr Wellington 22 – 15 in the semi-final and the High School of Glasgow 20 – 5 in the final to claim the Carrick 7s trophy for the second year in a row.
Following the performance of the S3 7s Squad, the College’s Director of Rugby, Mark McKenzie, commended the Aloysians for their “Excellent commitment, skill and determination throughout the tournament.”

Not to be outdone by the younger rugby stars, the Senior Squad also made it two in a row when they won the Hutchesons’ Grammar Rugby 7s Tournament for St Aloysius’ College for the second year running.
Notching up 5 straight victories, the Senior team claimed the Hutchesons 7s trophy with wins against Queen Victoria, Lomond and the High School of Glasgow in the early stages before beating Glasgow Academy in the semi-final and Ayr Wellington in final.
They were presented with their trophy in front of their fellow Aloysians at assembly in St Aloysius Church where S3 will also be presented with their trophy next week.

The St Aloysius’ College Squad for the Carrick Academy 7s Competition included Isaac Mitchell, Andrew Hughes, J.P Brawley, Tom Lonergan, Patrick Norris, Luca Bardelli, Luke McCutcheon, Chris Stafford, Ronan Ross and Zach McKeown.
The St Aloysius’ College Squad for the Hutchesons’ Grammar 7s Competition included Martin Hughes, Liam Nolan, Rory McDonald, Joseph Skivington, Jonathan Scott, Jacob Siems, Michael Hughes, Michael Dunn, Thomas Mullen and Ennis McCreadie.
