Daniel Climbs to Scholarship Success

Congratulations to climber Daniel Smith (S3) who has recently been awarded a £2,500 scholarship from Squadkit for 2018.

There are only four scholarships available throughout the UK and with over seventy applicants it was a tough decision, however, Daniel was one of the lucky recipients.

He will use the scholarship to fund his 2018 international competitions in Austria, Italy, Germany and Bulgaria.

Daniel has already experienced amazing success in the sport. He has been selected for the GB team, European Cups and has been British Champion in his year group. But is doesn’t stop there for our star climber; “I’m hoping to make the final in at least one of my international competitions this year. That means I will qualify for the IFSC 2018 Youth World Climbing Championship in Canada. I’m more hopeful this year as I’m now at the upper level of my age group.

“I would just like to thank Mr Tearney for putting me forward for the scholarship.”

Dean Tearney, Director of Sport at St Aloysius’ College, was thrilled to hear the news; “We are delighted for Daniel and this is thoroughly deserved. It was extremely competitive and Daniel’s hard work has paid off.”

We wish Daniel the very best of luck this year and we will keep you updated on, what I’m sure will be, his many achievements in 2018.
