Eloquent Aloysians Inspire in Public Speaking Competition

Two senior Aloysians were selected for the final of this year’s Rotary Club of Glasgow Schools Public Speaking Competition after all Aloysian speakers impressed judges throughout the qualifying heats with “eloquent, impassioned and engaging” performances.

Honor McWilliams and Frazier McBride of S5 made it to the final of the annual competition after giving wonderfully moving speeches during the event’s qualifying rounds, which this year attracted over 80 performers from independent and state schools throughout the West of Scotland.

Honor spoke on the topic of Dreams and Ambitions whilst Frazier reflected on the lessons he learned from a visit to Auschwitz. Both Aloysians impressed audience members and judges alike, receiving ovations for their exceptional performances.

The College was also very well represented in the qualifying heats by Grace McWilliams of S2 and Ryan Duffy of S3, who were highly commended for their speeches on the Power of Understanding, and by Niamh Mullarkey, Monica Murray and James Haughey of S6, who were all described as ‘first class ambassadors for the College’.

Dr Simpson and Mr Meechan, who run the St Aloysius’ College public speaking club, were delighted with the performances of all the pupils in this year’s competition and even received a message from the organisers, thanking the College for the high quality of Aloysian entries.
