Junior Pupils Make a Difference with Mary's Meals

The pupils of St Aloysius’ College Junior School have set out on a mission to do all that they can for Mary's Meals Backpacks Appeal for Malawi and after the 1000th care package was donated last year, the young Aloysians have added a further 226 backpacks to the total in just three weeks this term.

St Aloysius’ College has been donating backpacks filled with stationery, items of clothing and hygiene products to Mary’s Meals for 5 years now and in 2014 the total number of backpacks donated surpassed the 1000 mark.

This year, the Junior School’s Charities Club have set out to donate even more, and with pupils from Kindergarten to P7 donating 226 backpacks in just three weeks, they certainly reached their target.

The backpacks were collected at the College last week by very grateful Mary’s Meals volunteers, Michael and Cros, who have become good friends of the College over the past few years.

Speaking on the collection day, Mrs Carmichael, who helped the Charities Club co-ordinate the appeal, was full of praise for the generosity shown by pupils and families of the Junior School, saying,

“The teachers of the Junior School are very proud of the enthusiasm that the children show towards our various Mary’s Meals charity endeavours and we very much appreciate the efforts made by parents in assisting their children throughout our charities year!”

The pupils have also been taking part in Mary’s Meals Donate a Dinner campaign this term and have so far donated enough to feed 65 school children one cooked meal per day for a full school year.

The Junior School Charities Club is taken by Mrs Carmichael every Tuesday after school and new members are always welcome to attend.
