Junior School House System Introduced for 2016

College introduces a House System in the Junior School

Introducing a House System will further our mission of providing cura personalis while strengthening our sense of community with our pupils 'living and learning for the greater glory of God and the common good'. The shared vision behind the new system fosters a greater sense of belonging and healthy competition as well as rooting the pupils more firmly in the College's Jesuit identity, embracing and promoting the characteristics of the Jesuit Pupil Profile.

All our pupils and staff, from Kindergarten and Junior School, now belong to one of our 4 Houses, named after our 4 Jesuit Saints - St Aloysius Gonzaga, St Ignatius Loyola, St John Ogilvie and St Francis Xavier. These mirroring the four Houses currently in our Senior School. Kindergarten and Junior School families are in the same House as their siblings in the Senior School. All other pupils have been allocated to the four Houses, ensuring a spread of skills and talents in Music, Sport and Art.

Much of what we do in the Junior School in extra-curricular activities will be linked to our House System. The children are grouped vertically, providing opportunities to bond with and work alongside children within the whole College. It will also enable us to proactively develop each pupil's leadership skills.

Ms Lamarra, Junior School teacher at the College, who has taken the lead in this new venture, was thrilled to see the pupils and staff gather in their new Houses at the first ever House Assembly, where everyone was presented with their House badge and the names of House Captains and Vice Captains were announced.

"It was wonderful and exciting to see the pupils and staff come together in their House groups for the very first time. There was a real buzz and true sense of 'family' and I feel extremely privileged to be given this opportunity."
