Primary 7 pupils wow judges and parents at their annual Junior Science Fair

St Aloysius' College Science Fair 

The annual St Aloysius’ College Junior School Science Fair (named in memory of our late colleague, Morag McDonald) once again highlighted the wealth of scientific knowledge and creativity of our Primary 7 pupils.

The evening provided us with an opportunity to see the children at their most creative and inventive, with projects ranging from Blind Taste Testing and Algorithm creation to Magnetic Slime!

The judges really had their work cut out to narrow it down to just one winner from each class.

The task of choosing who should be awarded the first place prizes this year fell to Dr Isabelle Cullen (a GP and member of our board of governors), Dr Jobson (from the Chemistry Department) and Dr Swan (from the Biology Department) who all commented on the good competitive spirit and the excellent communication skills shown by all our budding scientists.

In the end projects from Emma Vella (Heat intensity of 3 fuel sources), Christopher Douglas (How taste is affected by smell) and Oliver Heaney (Water bottle rocketry) were chosen due to the execution of their ideas and how eloquently the children communicated the results of their investigations.

Following the event, Junior School Science Teacher, Mr McClintock expressed how delighted he was with the standard of projects on show at this year’s Science Fair, saying,

“Every year the children continue to astound us all with their creativity and scientific insight. 2018 was no different. We had a wide range of investigations and the children communicated their findings very well. All three judges were very impressed”.
