Schola Tune up for St Peter's Basilica with stunning Winter Concert

The College’s Schola Cantorum choir gave a ‘stunning’ public performance at a concert in Glasgow’s St Aloysius Church last week, debuting new songs ahead of their upcoming trip to Rome to perform in St Peter’s Basilica.
The Schola choir specialises in signing choral and liturgical music and has been at the forefront of the College’s ambition to become a centre of excellence for choral music.
The public concert in St Aloysius Church was the first organised by the College since installation of the magnificent new Taylor Family Organ.
The choir debuted new pieces which they will perform during Mass in St Peter’s Basilica when they travel to Rome at the end of this month.
During their trip to Rome, the Aloysians will also perform at an evening concert in Basilica of San’ Eustachio, and even hope to be invited to sing for the Pope during the morning Papal audience on Wednesday 24 of February.
There was an audience of 200 people in St Aloysius Church and they were treated to performances of ‘A New Song’ by Sir James Macmillan and ‘The Lord Bless you’ by John Rutter during the 5-song set which the Head Master and, many in attendance, described as ‘stunning’.
The concert also saw the school’s Junior Schola Choir display their considerable ability when they performed Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ accompanied by the school’s Harp tutor, Eve Brzozowska.
