Climbing

Congratulations to Hannah Smith (S4) who has just been selected to represent team GB in the upcoming climbing world championships in Innsbruck.

The competition starts at the end of August and runs until the 10th September.

We wish her all the very best, it is well deserved.

Hockey

Congratulations to Anna Hoolaghan who during the summer holidays represented Scotland Under 16 Hockey Squad.

The Scotland Team competed in a Home Test Series against Ireland where the girls were unbeaten, winning two matches and drawing the third.

Anna has also been selected to play in the Futures Cup, which will take place this Wednesday to Sunday in St Albans.

Well done Anna, good luck and play well.

Activities

Public Speaking

Ladies and Gentlemen,  the Public Speaking Club run by Dr Simpson and Mr Meechan opens again for business this Friday lunchtime. If you want an idea of where this club can lead, I give you Humzah Razzaq (S3)

Already a finalist in Rotary’s individual competition, and chair of our Great Britain and Ireland Youth Speaks winners, Humzah has also been very active this summer. The Head Master and I were privileged to hear Humzah’s speech at the opening of a major exhibition at Scotland Street Museum. The Colourful Heritage project GlaswegAsians highlights contributions made to Scotland by people from a South Asian heritage.

Humzah addressed prominent guests from the Sikh, Hindu and Muslim religions, from the police and armed forces, and from the worlds of politics and business and was such a hit that he was invited back for a private tour with Nicola Sturgeon and the Transport Secretary, Humza Yousaf.

He has been offered work experience at the Scottish Parliament, and was a guest at the Pakistan Consulate for its 70th anniversary celebrations.

Humzah puts all of this down to the confidence he has learned through being a member of the Public Speaking Club.

Academics

SQA Exam Results

This morning I would like to pay tribute to everyone who sat SQA exams in May this year.  As you might know the results were announced in early August. These results are the outcome of a tremendous amount of work by pupils.  Some results are based just on an exam while others are based on an exam and an Assignment or Portfolio that pupils have worked on during the school year.

I hope these results will encourage you to work hard!  With much hard work and dedication you too can do amazing things.  Work hard throughout the year, listen to your teachers’ advice, meet all the deadlines set for you and be a good student.  By writing AMDG at the top of your page you are reminding yourself that you are striving to do your very best in every piece of work you do.

National 5

18 pupils got 9 National 5s which were all A grades

70% of all National 5s were A grade

97.4% of National 5 exams were passed

Highers

33    pupils got 5 Highers which were all A grades

61% of all Highers were A grade

96% of Higher exams were passed

Advanced Highers

12 pupils achieved 3 Advanced Highers which were all A grades

51.4% of Advanced Highers were A grade

93.1% of Advanced Higher exams were passed.

We expect these exam results to be amongst the best in Scotland.

Finally, just to highlight some real superstars who achieved 100% in their SQA exams:

Snedden, Nina            N5       French, Italian and Latin

Griffin, Anna               N5       French

Gorevan, Mathilde       N5       French

Radice, Matilde           N5       Italian

Fruh, Alexander          AH       Mathematics

So all the teachers would like to say a huge congratulations to everyone who sat exams this year.  I could be here a very long time describing some of the personal success stories, not just of those who achieved A grades or 100% but also of those who achieved results that they were extremely pleased with.

How did they do it?  Much hard work!  Get inspired about the subjects you are studying this year and see what you can achieve!
