Earlier in the month we celebrated Music Week at the College, bringing together our whole community from Kindergarten to Senior School to highlight the importance of music and the performing arts at St Aloysius’ College.

The week comprised of several events, kicking off with a talk from OA Benedict Morris – who has been hailed as a rising star in traditional music. Benedict has earned himself many personal accolades, including winning BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 2019, but he is also celebrated for his recent success with folk-based band Talisk.

Benedict spoke about his career in music so far, and we are sure that he has inspired many pupils to follow their passions and pursue music in the future. We were also treated to a performance and a Q&A! Thank you, Benedict, for taking the time to come and talk to us, it was lovely to welcome you back to the College!

Next up on the agenda was our SQA Showcase, where our talented pupils get to practice for their upcoming exams and we get a special treat at getting to see them perform! It’s amazing to watch home much hard work everyone has put into their pieces, and we are sure they will do amazing by the time exam season comes around.

Two of the biggest events in our music calendar were up next, our Junior and Senior School Music Festival Finals. These special nights are an amazing showcase of talent at the College – and our judges often have a tough time deciding the winner. Everyone did great with their performance, well done for making it through to the final!

At the end of the week, we had our usual FridayFest in our brand-new performance space – The Venue. This is a great place for our music community to come together and perform and experience new music you otherwise might not hear elsewhere.

One of the biggest celebrations of music week was the Glasgow Music Festival, where 150 of our pupils took part. We are very proud of our young people for their dedication to the subject, both inside and out of the classroom. At our recent Celebrating Success assembly, we made a note of highlighting all of the individual music successes that our pupils undertake in their own free time, whether that be passing an important audition, or taking part in your first live performance. We are always looking to celebrate our pupil’s achievements.

We had a great week celebrating all things music, but as music itself is one big celebration, we will continue to champion the subject and its students as an integral part of the College’s life.
