Great Things Happen After Heroes Night 2018

Last week our creative P6 pupils hosted their annual Heroes Night where they showed us what it really means to be a hero. Each pupil transformed into a famous individual they admire and spoke about their amazing achievements.

Oliver McShane (P6J) went as his hero, Robert Liston, who was a pioneering Scottish surgeon. Little did Oliver know, Kirsty Earley (The Digital Heritage Officer for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow) would discover this and that the following day, he would be personally invited for a tour of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow!

Oliver went along to visit the College with his mum who said “Oliver really enjoyed the experience and was so very fortunate to visit the library, College Hall and to see the portraits of previous Presidents”.

Oliver reflects on his experience: 

“I was very lucky to visit the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I met Kirsty Earley who was the Digital Heritage Officer. Kirsty showed me the museum cases with displays of surgical tools and equipment. We also visited the College Hall to see the portraits of former College Presidents. We then visited the extensive library and reading room.
I have learned that I have to study Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics/ Physics and also pass my higher exams with 5 A’s to become a cardiologist- it should take between 12-15 years”. 

Well done Oliver, we hope that this has inspired you to work very hard and thank you to Kirsty Earley for offering Oliver such a wonderful opportunity!
