Impressive Aloysians Win St Columba's Tournament

Impressive Aloysians Win St Columba's Tournament

Personal Excellence

The Aloysians of this year's Primary 7 Rugby Team wrote their names into the sporting history of the College recently by winning the St Columba’s Junior School Rugby Tournament and becoming the first ever team from St Aloysius’ College to do so.

The St Columba’s Tournament was first played in 1996 to mark their 100th Year as a school and now, after 19 years and many close calls, St Aloysius’ College has lifted the Centenary Trophy for the first time.

The Aloysians, who are coached by Mr Douglas, won their matches against St Columba’s School, Lomond School and Hutchesons’ Grammar on their way to the final where they defeated a very good Glasgow Academy side.

The St Aloysius’ College side were impressive in both attack and defence and managed to score a total of 18 tries throughout the tournament whilst conceding only one.

Reflecting on the victory and the overall standard of the current P7 team, a delight Mr Douglas said,

“The boys did very well. This is the best P7 team I think I’ve seen here at the College, and I’ve seen quite a few. It’s shaping up to be a great season for them as they are undefeated so far all year.”
