Junior School Delights in Book Week!

Book Week Scotland launched last week with events happening across the Junior School.

On Monday, Kindergarten and Primary Six Islay started the week’s events with a ‘Bookworm Buddies’ story-time session, in which the older children read books to the children in the Kindergarten. Later in the week, Primary Six Jura also joined the Kindergarten for 'The Rainbow Fish' story-time and arts and crafts session, in which P6 helped the younger children make their own rainbow fish.

Meanwhile in Primary One and Two, laughter could be heard ringing out from the Junior School library as the children discovered where missing underpants go, while reading the ever popular 'Aliens Love Underpants'! The children had a go at colouring their own aliens, designing some very colourful underpants and even wrote about the adventures of their alien. They concluded the week by making junk model space rockets for their aliens during an arts and craft session with Primary Six.

Primary Three learned about different types of genre and focused on the traditional fairytales, 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' and 'The Magic Porridge'. The children had a brilliant time as they took on the roles of both author and illustrator of their versions of these stories during the follow-up activities.

In Primary Four, the children enjoyed a story-time with 'Mr Stink' and enthusiastically participated in group activities including a character study of Mr Stink.

Primary Five shared their knowledge of the recent Rainforest topic by writing articles for the newly published 'Rainforest Fact-file' and 'Rainforest Poems' books, which will be available in the Junior School library next week.

Primary Six enjoyed the challenge of writing their very own blackout poems inspired by the work of American poet, Austin Kleon. Their published book of blackout poetry is now available to read in the Junior School library.

Finally, Primary Seven enjoyed sharing their knowledge with classmates to produce several diary entries based on the Christmas Truce. Their fabulous work will be available to read in the Library this week!
