The Kids' Lit Quiz 2018

Personal Excellence

On Monday, eight S1 and S2 pupils represented the school in the Scottish heats of The Kids’ Lit Quiz. The event encourages students to read widely for pleasure across genres and authors, and the pupil’s knowledge of literature was put to the test through 10 rounds of gruelling questions!

The two specially selected teams from St Aloysius’ took on 21 other teams from schools across the country, and competitors answered questions on everything from what garment Mrs Havisham wore, to what Harry Potter named his daughter. Both teams performed spectacularly and demonstrated an impressive (and often obscure) knowledge of books, characters and plot points.

Both teams also managed to come first in a round each, winning them all a brand-new book to take home. In the quick-fire questions between rounds, Christian (S2) was able to answer correctly on Quentin Blake before the question was even finished, winning himself some extra pocket money in the process.

Despite their great efforts, St Aloysius narrowly missed making it through to next stage of the quiz, which is held in eleven countries on five continents. However, for the very first time, The College was able to participate in this international competition, and the pupils have done both the school and themselves, proud! Often, children who are passionate about reading do not get the opportunity to celebrate it in such a fun and rewarding environment, and just taking part in this competition is a massive achievement.

Well done to everyone involved!
