Theatre Production Exploring Bullying Visits Junior School

On Friday the boys and girls in P7 received a visit from the touring production of ‘Hope’, the UK’s most performed production on the theme of bullying.

The play, delivered by professional actors, was a realistic and fascinating look at the causes and long-lasting impacts of bullying in a school setting.

The story follows a successful pop star who returns to her home town. An encounter with an acquaintance from her high school, brings back memories of her childhood and the bullying she suffered.

Speaking to two pupils in Prep Skye, they described their enjoyment of the play: “it was really real seeming”, said Christopher Douglas. “There were coincidences”, he continued, “but it still seemed believable”. Jenny Nicholson added that she enjoyed how “some parts were funny”, and also praised the characters: “they were really believable”.

Asked what they learnt from the production, Christopher explained you shouldn’t “assume bullies are bad people. Don’t assume anything about them”. Jenny added that “when people are bullying you, there’s usually a story behind it”.
