Year of Young People 2018

Make a Difference

Year of Young People 2018

Two of our pupils, Lucy Docherty (S4) and Archie Inns (S4), are currently involved in the Scottish Government's Year of Young People 2018 scheme, acting as Ambassadors for the College and attending training sessions with pupils from schools across Scotland.

'Year of Young People 2018 is an opportunity for generations to come together and celebrate our nation’s young people.

It is a platform for our young people (8 to 26). It will give them a stronger voice on issues which affect their lives, showcase their ideas and talents, and ultimately, aim to challenge status quo and create a more positive perception of them in society.' -Find out more

Lucy has written a short piece about her experience so far:

"Archie and I are year of Young People Ambassadors. We both went to a training day and learned all about our roles. The key message of the Year of Young People is to raise the opinions of all young people and give every young person in Scotland a voice. Their voice will then be represented by us and taken to the Scottish Youth Parliament and eventually the Scottish Parliament to hopefully make a positive difference to all young people’s lives.

We recently went to an event at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to meet with other ambassadors and meet some of the children from the hospital. This was the start of the young Scot Award’s bus which is touring the whole of Scotland and will eventually end up in Edinburgh where the Young Scot Awards take place.

In the not so distant future, we are also going to be taking part in a few national wide events to get people talking about the Year of Young People and what it means to them."

We are very proud of Lucy and Archie and are thrilled to have them as ambassadors for the College, keep up the hard work!
