Public Speaking

Congratulations to Scarlett Morris S3 who held her nerve at Glasgow Academy last week as part of the Glasgow Rotary Annual Public Speakers Competition, despite being drawn to speak first of the sixteen contestants! She gave a memorable performance, without notes, to win through to the final.

In spite of receiving considerable praise from the judges for her very sensitive and moving content, Grace McWilliams S4 narrowly missed out advancing to the final.

Although not finalists this year, Grace McWilliams and Lucy Docherty of S4 made impressive contributions to the reputation of the College, and deserve our immense gratitude. St Aloysius' College has every right to be proud of all six of this year's Rotary candidates.

There will be eighteen finalists from over sixty participants. The four College pupils who go forward to this year's Rotary final at Hutcheson's tonight are: Humzah Razzaq S3, Eva Pryce S3, Lucas McMenemy S6 and Scarlett Morris S3.

Rowing

Congratulations to Elspeth Grant, S5, who has been selected for GB trials in rowing.

Athletics

Well done to Jenna Morton, S4, on being selected for the Scottish Pentathlon team who competed at the Emirates arena last week. Great achievement !

Hockey

Congratulations to Anna Hoolaghan of S4 who has been selected into the Under 16 Scotland National Hockey Squad.

Congratulations also to Niamh Green who has been selected into the Under 16 Scotland Hockey Academy.  Well done girls!

I would like to ask both Anna and Niamh to come forward to be congratulated by the Headmaster.

Climbing

A couple of recent climbing competitions have seen continued success, with the Urban Uprising regional climbing competition -  Gabrielle Smith (S1) coming joint 3rd & Hazel Cassidy (S1) achieving 1st place. Well done to both, especially as it was their first taste of competition climbing and we look forward to seeing further achievements from them in the future.

Scottish Schools Climbing

This Saturday, saw the final of the Scottish Schools Climbing competition, held in Glasgow - with respective age categories -  Hannah Smith (S4) achieving 1st place senior girls lead  & Daniel Smith (S3) senior boys lead also achieving 1st place both climbing amazingly well on on extremely technically demanding and difficult routes.

I would like to call Hannah and Daniel to come forward to be congratulated by the Headmaster and presented with their medals.

It is of note that St Aloysius' College has the highest number pupils in Scotland if not the UK to attain podium places at national competition level, in the history of competition climbing. An outstanding achievement!
