College Musicians Showcase Talent at 16th Festival Final

Personal Excellence

A selection of the College’s most accomplished senior school musicians showcased their talent at the 16th annual St Aloysius’ College Music Festival Final recently and special guest judge, Mr Tim Dean, the Head of Opera at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, selected Music Captain, Colum, as the winner of the Athanasius Kircher SJ Rosebowl.

The annual celebration of Aloysian music saw ten finalists perform for an appreciative audience in the College Hall and all those who performed in the final were awarded prizes for their success in earlier heats of the competition.

Each performance offered something unique and the high standard displayed by the Aloysians made Mr Dean’s task of choosing a winner especially difficult.

The Head of Opera at the Royal Conservatoire gave individual feedback to each of the performers and spoke to the pupils about what makes a good performance. Mr Christie, the College's Director of Music, said it was very inspiring for the pupils to hear such detailed feedback from Mr Dean.

Before the winner was announced, the College’s Opera Group performed a preview form their forthcoming Summer Arts Showcase on the 20 and 21 June which will include performances from The Fairy Queen, Hansel and Gretel and Die Fledermaus.

Colum of S6 was awarded the overall Rosebowl prize for his vocal performance from Mozart’s opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’, whilst Scarlett of S1 was awarded the Biggars Prize for the College’s Most Promising Musician.
