WoSPEG Champions 2019!

WoSPEG Champions 2019!

Earlier this term, three of our Higher physics students took part in WoSPEG (West of Scotland Physics Education Group) Competition and we are delighted to announce that they were crowned the 2019 winners!

Thirty-two schools from the West of Scotland entered, from both the state and independent sector, taking part in knock-our rounds so that four teams eventually made it through to the final. Questions were a mixture of ‘on the buzzer’ (in which the rapid response of the College team was evident!), team questions with conferring and questions directed to individual team members without conferring. In addition, some challenging team problems were set in which all three members worked together with pencils, paper, and a calculator. Again, the College team performed admirably and stole the point in the final to win.

For their success, they have been awarded a fantastic trophy. It is not a cup or shield, but a 1:48 scale model of the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander that took astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the surface of the moon in 1969!

Well done to Humzah Razzaq, Olivia Dunn, and Anna Solek!
