James Frazier McBride came a close second in the final of the renowned Glasgow Speakers Competition this month following a wonderful speech at a packed debating chamber at Glasgow's City Chambers.

Using voice and gesture to great effect, James Frazier took charge of his audience in the ornate marble and stained glass auditorium. He delivered an impressively crafted speech which paid tribute to Burns, Billy Connolly and even Still Game.

In addition to his mum, dad and his sister, Jennifer McBride (OA), James Frazier was very well supported on the night by a strong Aloysian contingent, including the Head Master, Mr Bartlett, and Mr Garvey McCardle OA (sponsor of the Stephen Jardine Competition). Staff members Mrs Murray, Ms Barrington, Mr Ruddy, Mr Meechan, Dr Simpson and young Ellie Simpson all turned out to cheer on our orator.

James Frazier, who organises the College Debate and Lecture programme has honed his Public Speaking skills over the years as a dedicated member of our Club. During the past year, he has developed a booklet of resources which contains games and ideas aimed at the younger Club members.

His fantastic work ethic and commitment to promoting the Club led to him being appointed Co-Chair alongside Honor McWilliams, and being awarded the Fr Adrian Porter Eloquentes Quaich at this year's Prizegiving.
