Dr Maureen Farrell

Maureen Farrell joined the Governing Body in September 2025 and sits on the Formation and Education Committee. She is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. After working in schools in Ayrshire and Glasgow as an English teacher, Maureen became a teacher educator first in St Andrew’s College, Glasgow – and laterally the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. Over a long career Maureen was variously a course leader for Secondary English teachers, the Programme Leader for the B Ed Primary programme, the Associate Dean for Initial Teacher Education and the Director of Partnerships working on the placement of students in schools for teaching practice. This latter post involved working closely with seven local authorities to ensure the placement of students, particularly with respect to placing Catholic students within Catholic schools.

Within the wider university Maureen served as Senior Senate Assessor for Appeals for a long period. As well as teacher education, Maureen was a founder member and key teaching team member of two widely recognised Masters’ programmes in Children’s Literature and Literacies.
