Throwback - '94/'95 Rugby Cup Winners

The ’94 – ’95 rugby season proved a great success for the College. With plenty of wins under their belt, the team advanced to the quarter-finals against a formidable Peebles High School (who we would eventually face in the final of the ’95 – ’96 season). We made it through to the semi-final with a 23 – 17 victory to face Earlston High School.

As our College Magazine from September 1995 reports, our team was up against gale force winds as we approached half-time trailing 0 – 18. The team talk before the second half must have been inspirational, as we made it through to the final with a 31 – 18 win against all odds.

The final took place at Malleny Park and the support from the College was ecstatic. After losing the previous season, all was to play for as we faced up against Queen Victoria School. It looked as if Queen Victoria had the upper hand, at one point having us trail 10 - 5. Before the half the Aloysian side rallied to score three tries and one conversion to bring it up to 17 – 10. The team did not lose their energy in the second half – shutting out Queen Victoria and taking home the cup with a 44 – 10 win.

As the College Magazine reported it “provid[ed] a fitting end to what was, overall, a very satisfying season.”
